#1918: Nobody Can Live Forever

Vintage tunes on the radio always remind me of summers spent driving around city streets and lonely roads. Road trips and quick jaunts, muggy winds dragging cigarette smoke out the windows, while the radio blares blues and soul and rock that sounded like signals from far away across time and space. Good memories, is what I’m getting at. Here’s a mix of the old school, prime fodder for sanguine summer adventures.

What’s That Sound? Winstons – s/t

One late night in the back end of 2016 during a rowdy post-election string of concerts, I saw Winstons get a crowd all riled up in the back room of Greenpoint dance club The Good Room. Everyone was raw from bad weather and an inescapably rough couple months and the room was ready for something real, and goddamn if these two didn’t bring it.

Over the few years since, Winstons have toured a bit, released a fantastic single and recorded what will be their first full length album, self-titled, out 3/1 on Virginia roots-rock imprint WarHen Records.

Soundtrack To The Circus: Notables from 2018

Everyone has one of these “Best Of” lists and it’s been diverse this year. Here’s my list, in no real order, of notable releases with a brief blurb for each and (most importantly) links for you to listen and buy direct from the artists!  We’ll start with my absolute favorites and follow the consciousness stream the rest of the way.  Bands from the NYC area will have a * next to their name ’cause that’s where I live and it’s a great place to hear music.
